Bears Welcomed! A New Chapter for ZOO Brno 🐾

The OpenSSL Corporation participated in a significant occasion, the Grand Reopening of the new Beringia enclosure at ZOO Brno. As the general sponsor of the project, we were honoured to support this important milestone in the zoo’s development.

We are the official sponsor of the Beringia enclosure in ZOO Brno

This modern enclosure is now home to three female polar bears: the iconic Cora, who in the past raised several cubs at ZOO Brno, and two new females, Anna and Elsa. Visitors had their first chance to see them together, separated only by a fence.

Despite the rainy weather, visitors of all ages made their way to ZOO Brno, from young polar bear fans to supporters from local businesses and the wider public.

The new polar bear enclosure at Zoo Brno officially opened with a ceremonial ribbon cutting. Everyone present wished the polar bears a happy and comfortable life in their new home.

Anton Arapov (Director of the OpenSSL Corporation) Welcomed Guests

In his speech, Anton highlighted the importance of the new enclosure not only for ZOO Brno but also for the protection of endangered species – a mission that aligns closely with our own: Security and Privacy for Everyone. He expressed how pleased we are, as a new organisation in Brno, to support a project in the real world with meaningful impact.

Throughout the day, we hosted a stand directly by the new enclosure. Visitors learned about how technology and conservation can go hand-in-hand. Children especially enjoyed solving a Caesar Cipher, and every half hour there was a draw for a chance to win a plush polar bear wearing an OpenSSL Corporation t-shirt.

Bears in Their New Home

A highlight of the day was the narrated feeding session, where Anna and Elsa enjoyed an offal cake along with other treats. Visitors had the opportunity to observe their natural behaviours and learn more about the polar bears’ new environment.

Cora remains separated from Anna and Elsa for now, and the process of socialising them will continue gradually over the coming days. The bears enjoyed the attention, fresh ice deliveries, and the chance to dig and explore a much larger space than they were used to.

Closing Remarks

We thank ZOO Brno for their trust and partnership. We are delighted to have been part of this important milestone. And if you missed the event, the new Beringia enclosure is now open. Come and see it for yourself!
