OpenAlt Conference 2025 – Connecting Developers, Advancing Open Cryptography

The OpenSSL Corporation participated in the annual OpenAlt Conference in Brno (November 1 - 2) as a sponsor and exhibitor. OpenAlt, one of the most established open-source and open-technology events in Brno, brought together developers, educators, and community members to explore the intersection of open innovation, privacy, and digital freedom.

This year marked the OpenSSL Corporation’s first appearance at the event — an opportunity to meet the broader local open-source community, share our ongoing work, and listen directly to those building on and contributing to the OpenSSL Library. Our presence included a booth, community engagement activities, and technical talks that reflected our commitment to transparency, collaboration, and continuous innovation in open cryptography.

Over the weekend, our team connected with developers, students, and open-source contributors eager to discuss cryptography, post-quantum readiness, and the future of privacy-preserving technologies. The booth served as a meeting point for both long-time OpenSSL Library users and newcomers interested in how open standards continue to shape global cybersecurity infrastructure.

As our first year exhibiting at OpenAlt Conference, the event provided an important opportunity to strengthen ties with the local open-source community in the Czech Republic. Direct engagement reaffirmed the essential role that open, standards-based cryptography plays in ensuring secure, interoperable, and trustworthy digital systems.

Andrew Dinh – “The Easy Path to Privacy

On Saturday, Andrew Dinh presented an accessible and forward-looking talk on simplifying privacy-enhancing technologies. His session explored how various tools can empower users to protect personal data through practical, transparent solutions.

Norbert Pocs & Tomas Vavra – “OpenSSL 3.5 and Beyond: Preparing for the Post-Quantum Era

In a joint session, Norbert Pocs and Tomas Vavra discussed the OpenSSL 3.6 release and the broader roadmap around post-quantum cryptography. Their presentation focused on balancing innovation with stability — ensuring the OpenSSL Library remains a reliable base as new standards and algorithms emerge. In the second part of their session, Norbert guided the audience through a hands-on demonstration using the OpenSSL Library commands to create the certificates. This practical segment gave attendees a clear, step-by-step look at real-world workflows, demonstrating exactly how to create and manage certificates using the OpenSSL Library.
